TESTAMENTARY DISPOSITIONS
A will can be described a written declaration of how a person wishes to dispose of his or her property after his or her death. It is important that it is regularly reviewed and updated as one’s personal circumstances change. Examples of these changes in circumstances include getting married or divorced, the birth of one’s children, and the need to provide for other dependents.
A will should provide certainty and clarity as to:
- The heirs and legatees who will inherit your assets and the details of the form the inheritance or legacy will take;
- Who the executor of your estate will be;
- Provision to deal with the requirements of any minor children, both by the appointment of guardian/s and the setting up of trusts;
- Any other specific directions that you wish to give effect to on your death.
Graaffs Trust Limited will assist and guide you through the process of drawing up your will, and with any changes which need to be made at any stage.
LIVING WILLS
A living will is a document which will communicate your medical wishes to your family and medical practitioners at a time when you medically unable to do so. We recommend that you provide a copy of the living will to your close family and doctor in advance.
